The Nevada Gourd Society hosted its first Silver State Art Festival on September 23rd and 24th, in beautiful Carson City, Nevada. Fuji Exhibit Hall was filled with gourd artists, painters, photographers, wood and basket makers, as well as vendors selling art supplies. The three days of gourd classes in Fuji Park were great fun and the Make-n-Take booth allowed adults and kids to make necklaces or pins out of gourd shards. So many visitors were "wowed" by all of the beautiful work on display and were surprised about all of the different things that can be done with gourds.
In addition to all of the art, a wonderful raffle was held to generate funds for two deserving local charities, Kids and Horses, and Holiday with a Hero. Holiday with a Hero received $500 and the Kids and Horses organization was presented with a check for $1,000.
Kristy Kalt Dial and Patti Jo Newsom the co-founders of the Nevada Gourd Society, are proud to say that the Joe Kalt and Judy Gans Family Foundation will be matching the $1,000.00 donation to Kids and Horses. The Nevada Gourd Society is proud to donate to local charities and plans to continue contributing to the community for years to come.
The Nevada Gourd Society is so very thankful to all of the businesses and participating artists who donated close to 50 items which made the raffle a great success. Please click here to see our list of donors.
