Class description
During this class you will learn to do some basic wood burning. You will also learn how to use your rotary tool to create a lacey effect using the filigree technique on your gourd. In addition, you will learn to use ink dyes and embossing products to enhance the filigree carving, the bear the outer ring and paw print on the back of the gourd. Other embellishments supplied by the instructor can be used to further enhance your art piece.
While each student's comfort level and speed with the tools and process varies, most students will be able to complete the project during class-time. Any students who do not complete the project in the class will be able to complete it later using the detailed step-by-step instructions and patterns, as well as, leveraging class instruction and discussions.
Instructor will provide:
- A step-by-step tutorial and patterns
- One prepared clean round body gourd
- One filigree burr per student
- Sanding sticks
- Ink dyes, embosssing products and applicators
- Assortment of embellishments
What you are asked to bring
NOTE: Instructor will have a few of these for sharing
Students need to bring:
- Wood burner (simple one is fine)
- Dremel or rotary carving tool and a dust mask
- Heat gun ( if you have one)
- X-acto knife or sharp hobby knife
- Tape measure, small paint brushes
- Pencil and good eraser
- Apron, gloves, dust mask and eye protection (safety glasses or your regular glasses).

About the instructor
Jeannine has been carving, wood burning and painting since the 1980's. She began applying her creative techniques to gourds in 2011, when she and her husband retired to Sedona. Her award-winning gourd art creations range from miniature desert landscapes to Indian Art. Sculpting gourds is her newest passion. Her sculptures range from the abstract to life-like animals in natural settings. She won the 2022 People's Choice Award at the Arizona Gourd Societies "Running of the Gourd Festival" in Casa Grande, AZ. Jeannine is a member of the American Gourd Society, The Nevada Gourd Society and Great Basin Gourd Club, and PEO.
