Class description
This is the gourd I sell the most at festivals. They are small and unique and allow you to to add embellishments that give the gourd character. It also challenges you to get creative on how you add the patterns to the gourd.
The class begins with learning a few patterns from my book and others I enjoy using. I will show several different ways to create a design that flows around the gourd with depth and interest. After your design is wood burned, we will add a dye technique that will add texture to the surface before you add more dye or paint. I will also show you how I use markers to enhance the color.
As you finish, I will share embellishments, beads, feathers and the things you can add to the top. You can bring your own and challenge me on how you might use it on your gourd. No two gourds will look alike so be ready to be amazed at the variety of results. You can't fail with this one!
I will supply everything with the exception of the items listed for you to bring below.
What you are required to bring
Each student is required to bring the following items to class:
- Drawing paper and supplies you use for doodling
- Shards for practice
- Wood burner with outlining tip (optional)
- Dyes, paints, markers, and their accessories you like to use
About the instructor
I enjoy teaching wood burning and tangling. This year I am traveling to festivals sharing my new books and gourd projects. You can see my work at my website www.gourdblossomjewelry.com. I enjoyed teaching my techniques to many last year at your first Silver State Art Festival and I hope those who didn't have the opportunity to take my classes last year will be able to come this year. If you've already taken my class, join me again to hone your skills and try out my new patterns on the project gourd.
