Class description

If you are wanting to "step up" your pyrography skills, this class is for you.

The focus of this class is drawing patterns on gourds that have shading giving the image depth and interest. The first half of the class is spent learning to draw, with pencil, three patterns from my new tangling pattern books. Then you will apply the basic rules of shading to the drawing.

Next, we will draw the same patterns on the our gourd using the writing tip. This technique adapts the traditional method usually seen on wood. These are grid patterns, so no special drawing talent is needed! With this technique we do not burn through the surface of the gourd but burn layers of "toasted color".

I will supply your gourd and a handout. Copies of my new books will be available for you to buy.

What you are required to bring

Each student is required to bring the following items to class:

  • Your wood burning tool and tips
  • Watercolor pencils--shades of brown and white

About the instructor

I enjoy teaching wood burning and tangling. This year I am traveling to festivals sharing my new books and gourd projects. You can see my work at my website www.gourdblossomjewelry.com. I enjoyed teaching my techniques to many last year at your first Silver State Art Festival and I hope those who didn't have the opportunity to take my classes last year will be able to come this year. If you've already taken my class, join me again to hone your skills and try out my new patterns on the project gourd.
